The Güeña River runs into the Sella River as it flows through Cangas de Onís (Asturias). We have organised an exciting walk in this environment to learn how to identify the different birds living there, to know what they eat and where they sleep or make their nests. We will walk among oaks, hazels, chestnut trees, sycamores and many other trees.
We will walk along an easy, flat path for 4 km (about 3 miles) appoximately, on the bank of the Güeña river and we will observe grey herons, dippers, woodpeckers, bullfinches and other typical birds from this area.
The walk should last for two hours or two and a half hours, depending on the amount and variety of birds that we are able to find. We don’t rush, stopping whenever necessary to watch and listen to the greatest amount of species of birds.
Comfortable shoes are highly recommended but mountain or tech footwear is not mandatory (the path is flat and with a really low level of difficulty). A pair of boots or sport shoes with good soles will always help you to prevent a slip though.
We can not assure you 100% of the presence of all the birds we are supposed to watch. But in order to accomplish our aim, we kindly ask you to avoid any kind of disturbance for our winged friends. We would also be extremely grateful if you would follow our instructions.
You have up to four opportunities per day to walk with us: twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon.
We depend on the weather: in the case of a rainy day we would change the walk to another day (hopefully a sunny one!) or you could Build a nest box with us!
