Birdwatching at the Villaviciosa Estuary

Birds in the Villaviciosa Estuary

The Villaviciosa Estuary is a perfect territory for birds to shelter in. The wintering species find there a quiet place to go through the toughest Winter months and go back to their native quarters, to breed. Besides, other migratory species have a rest on these lands on their way to further and warmer resorts.

In addition to the regular wintering bird species, with bad weather conditions on the sea we may find pelagic species. So that, on these worse winter days it’s easier to find a higher number of different species inland which, in other circumstances, would be more difficult to spot.

How do we carry out the journey?

In order to enjoy eith all these bird species, we visit different locations alogn the estuary and we go for short walks close to the tidal areas. We spend some time in an observatory as well, from which we might observe aquatic species, small birds and some raptors through our binocular and telescopes.
